Abortion is a blessing, abortion is an act of love, abortion is liberation, says abortion provider

DENVER - Nov. 15, 2021 - PRLog -- During a House Oversight Committee hearing on abortion restrictions, a Texas abortion practitioner referred to abortion as a "blessing" that represented an act of "love" and "freedom."

"SB 8 has not only resulted in a near-total abortion prohibition in Texas, but it has made being pregnant in Texas incredibly risky," Dr Ghazaleh Moayedi testified, alluding to a newly approved Texas measure that prohibits abortions when a foetal heartbeat can be detected. She stated that the law disproportionately affected minorities. "I know directly that abortion saves lives; abortion is a blessing for the hundreds of individuals I've cared for; abortion is an act of love; abortion is freedom," she stated.

"We need government protection right now," Moayedi, a board-certified obstetrician and gynaecologist, added. "We need rules that elevate research and evidence while still acknowledging the dignity and autonomy of persons seeking treatment."

On Twitter, conservatives and pro-life campaigners pounced on Moayedi's remarks.

Rep. Michelle Fischbach, R-Minn., tweeted, "I'm sorry, I must have misheard." "Did you intend to say, 'Life is a blessing, life is a gift, abortion is one of our country's worst tragedies?'"

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker replied to the video as well, saying that all sides of the debate should agree that abortion is a "terrible thing."

Walker tweeted, "Science teaches us that an unborn baby is a human being." "Abortion terminates that life. Abortion is neither a blessing, an act of love, or a kind of liberation for the human being who is slain. One thing we can all agree on is that abortion is heinous."

"I'm black, and I've been black my entire life," Republican congressional candidate Lavern Spicer said on Twitter. "I've never been so outraged in my life."

Republican Rep. Andy Biggs called Moayedi's comments "demented."

Following the hearing, Moayedi appeared to stick by her words on Twitter, retweeting a message about abortion being a blessing and posting "I said it and I meant it" in response to another remark she made.

Moayedi has written multiple essays in support of abortion access, with headings such as "All I Want for Christmas Is for Texans to Be Able to Afford Their Abortions" and "How Motherhood Made Me a Better Abortion Provider."
