Barrio México travels to play AD Carmelita at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, November 21 at Estadio Rafael Bolaños (XQW4+99V, Alajuela Province, San Antonio, Costa Rica) in the second leg of a Liga Motorola Apertura quarterfinal playoff match.
Barrio México entered the Liga Motorola promotion playoffs as the No. 3 team in Group A. The winner on Sunday advances to the Group 'A' Final.
Head Coach Gilberto 'El Tuma' Martinez said, "It's going to be a very, very difficult game even though we have a three-goal advantage in the aggregate. Carmelita is a team that is going to give their all, starting with pressing us from the beginning of the game. As a coach and as a team we are at peace because we have worked hard and done everything right (and) with God's help we will come out with a victory."
Barrio México (8-6-3 W-D-L) topped Carmelita 3-0 in the first leg on Sunday, Nov. 14, with goals from DiJohn Arias, Jeffrey Montenegro and Marvin Chinchilla. The club now is unbeaten over its last seven matches overall, and has four consecutive wins over Carmelita dating to 2019.
Barrio MX goalkeeper Brian Morales said, "We had a great victory last week made more valuable now with three goals in our favor. This week we have worked on little details that will help us. Carmelita at home are tough, but even with that we should come back with a favorable result because we have matured greatly as a team and grown strong at handling tough games. We have to aggressive but not cocky with our 3-0 lead. We have to win."
This is the second consecutive season that Barrio México has qualified for the Liga Motorola playoffs.
