Spiritus Medical Inc attends International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2021 in Dubai for NASA JPL-designed VITAL Ventilator Presentation
Columbus, Ohio, USA-based Spiritus Medical Inc. attended the 72nd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2021, held in Dubai, UAE, in support of a co-authored presentation 'How Businesses are Working Together to Deliver NASA JPL-designed Ventilators to the World in the Fight Against COVID-19'
The IAC is the one place and time of the year where the aerospace industry comes together and covers all space sectors and topics, with more than 6,000 participants each year. It offers everyone the latest space information and developments in academia and industry, networking opportunities, contacts, and potential partnerships.
The IAC presentation 'How Businesses are Working Together to Deliver NASA JPL-designed Ventilators to the World in the Fight Against COVID-19' was authored and presented by Spiritus Medical Inc.'s CEO, Dr. Peter H.U. Lee, cardiothoracic surgeon, SouthCoast Health. The presentation outlined how NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) engineers had embarked on an ambitious project to design a reliable, easy-to-use, and low-cost ventilator that was made of readily available parts to address the unexpected global shortage of these lifesaving devices and detailed how STARK Industries LLC's spin-off Spiritus Medical Inc, commercialized the NASA technology.
Notable participants and sponsors in IAC 2021 were Lockheed Martin, ESA, JAXA, UAE Space Agency, Northrop Grumman, AWS, Boeing, Blue Origin, NASA JPL, and including Gen. Larry D. James – Interim Director of NASA JPL.
The VITAL, renamed the Spiritus 'VITALITY' Ventilator, is a single mode pneumatic ventilator that was designed by NASA engineers in April of 2020 to specifically address the shortage of ventilators associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The original design is FDA EUA approved and the ventilator is 'Made in the USA'.
The VITALITY is made with readily available off-the-shelf parts from the U.S. and is designed to be simple to use, dependable, and low-cost. Spiritus Medical Inc. has ongoing NASA support with a worldwide NASA license. Our extensive international connections allow quick and efficient distributorship and delivery of the ventilators. Additionally, we have flexible manufacturing capabilities, with the ability to increase ventilator production to over 200 units per day, if necessary.
