Atheists Helping the Homeless, DC, Distribution Event, Silver Spring MDAtheists Helping the Homeless, DC (AHHDC) announces their Next Distribution Event, November 12, 2021. The goal is to help people experiencing homelessness, people who live in tents, out of cars, or in shelters, etc. AHHDC operates in Washington DC and nearby areas.
AHHDC is a small group of volunteers some of whom are atheists, but they cannot be just atheists. They are citizens. They want to help, to give, to learn, and to receive. There is nothing to stop them, as atheists, from believing in basic human goodness and wanting to nurture that. They have ethics; they have moral compasses. They are integral parts of our society and are proud to be your family, your friends, and your neighbors, and they want to help our community. The goal of AHHDC is to provide small toiletry items (travel size) needed daily (soap, nail clippers, towelettes, socks, combs, small shampoo, toothbrush and small paste, etc.) to people who are homeless and who travel primarily by foot. They distribute to those who cannot carry regular-sized items everywhere they go. The items are for people living on the street, out of a tent or car, or out of a shelter. The AHHDC sets up a table for 3-4 hours on a sidewalk where homeless people pass by and distributes items. The last event was able to help over 75 clients. As a relatively new group, one immediate goal of AHDC is to achieve public awareness. Their website is www.atheistshelping.org.
