A Fire During The Autotrader EcoPark Automotive 500

Alfredo's No. 38 Ford began leaking fluid that caught on fire moments after the car had stopped on the inside of the track. "At first, I was taking my time to get out and I removed the steering wheel, then began unbuckling my safety harness," said Alfredo. "Then I saw the car was on fire and I got out as fast as I could."
Alfredo's car is equipped with the Maglock® Air magnetic coupling device that connects his air-hose and FluidLogic hydration system to his racing helmet. The system is designed to provide an airtight seal with 20-lbs of clamping force but can be quickly removed for driver changes or in the case of an accident. "I have been in accidents before and recall it was a lot harder to unhook from the car before using the Maglock® Air system," said Alfredo. "Over the years I have developed a sequence of events, almost like muscle memory, to extricate myself from the vehicle. But even if I had forgotten all of that, I am confident knowing the Maglock® Air would not slow me from getting out of a fiery crash like this one."
Alfredo exited the car with no choice but to jump into the fire, walking away unhurt and ready for the next race. "I didn't realize what was going on at the moment and I'm pretty sure I walked through fire," he said. "This is a testament that all of the safety equipment we use is top-notch and proven to work."
