West Chester Elks Lodge 853 Award 2021 Scholarship

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Oct. 21, 2021 - PRLog -- West Chester Elks Lodge 853 was proud to award the 2021 scholarship to Andrew Powers, grandson of Ellen Kramer! Andrew will be starting the next chapter of his life at Iowa State University, majoring in meteorology.   Congratulations Andrew and thank you Committee Chairperson Stephanie Peery for your good work in consistently ensuring that this program is a success!!

Elks Lodges bring so much more to their communities than just a building, golf course or pool. They are places where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up.

Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, meet the needs of today's veterans, and improve the quality of life.

On February 16, 1868, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was established.  Its social activities and benefit performances increased the popularity of the new Order. Membership grew rapidly. Elks traveling to other cities spread the word of the Brotherhood of Elks. Soon there were requests for Elks Lodges in cities other than New York. In response to these appeals, the Elks asked the New York State legislature for a charter authorizing the establishment of a Grand Lodge with the power to establish local Lodges anywhere in the United States. When the Grand Lodge Charter was issued, the founders then received the first local charter as New York Lodge No. 1 on March 10, 1871.
