English movies at Cinemas in Kyiv - in one website

KYIV, Ukraine - Oct. 21, 2021 - PRLog -- Local expat, Danish national and frequent cinema-goer Klaus Jensen was tired of
digging through many different cinema websites in Ukranian and Russian, to try to
figure out which movies were showing in their original language - not dubbed.

Tired of looking for movies in English at cinema websites

"I love going to the cinema. But I do not understand enough Ukranian or Russian to
watch dubbed versions - and while most local cinemas show some movies in English
now and then, finding them is difficult and takes time.
I talked to some of my expat friends about it, and they shared my frustration. Some had
even given up on cinemas in Kyiv, and now only watched stuff on Netflix or other
streaming services."

Should I continue to be annoyed, or should I do something about it?

Klaus says he and the people he talked to wanted ONE place to visit to get a complete
and up-to-date overview - and a weekly email or something like that, with an overview
once a week.
After looking around and failing to find a solution to the problem (and spending some
time being annoyed about it) Klaus decided to build it himself in his spare time.
"I usually work for large international companies, developing software solutions that
support business, but this is a work of pure passion - and a lot of fun to do!", says Klaus.
How it works
Using a combination of scraping and manual labour, done by volunteers, a database of
all movies in English and showtimes at cinemas in Kyiv is kept always up to date.

As a user, you can visit EnglishCinemaKyiv.com and see which movies are playing
when and where. Clicking a showing takes you directly to the cinema where you can
buy a ticket.
You can also sign up to the weekly email update, which shows the schedule for the
coming week.
Future plans
Other than expanding the reach, we also hope to drive more people to the screenings in
English at the cinema, so a wider selection of movies will be shown at cinemas - not just
the top most popular ones. A telegram-channel is also in the works.
