Maui Artist, George Allan, Invites You to Create a Masterpiece for the 2022 Lahaina Poster Contest

LAHAINA, Hawaii - Oct. 13, 2021 - PRLog -- The 2022 Lahaina Poster Contest juror and renowned artist, George Allan, invites you to showcase your art and love of historic Lahaina this year. Create a recognizable scene of Lahaina in any medium to be included in the contest. Entries are accepted from local Maui as well as global artists for a chance to win a $3,000 prize. Lahaina Arts Society will be awarding an additional $400 prize.

This year like last, Allan has accepted the honor of being the juror of the Official Lahaina Poster Contest. "It's always a joy to see the work of the new kids on the block! And, Lahaina is one of the most picturesque and paintable subjects in Hawaii, if not the world."

Allan's connection to Lahaina and its poster contest is unique. Over twenty years ago, Allan entered the Lahaina Poster Contest with a scene of the iconic Lahaina Harbor with the green West Maui mountains in the background. Allan's painting was a vivid replica of his first memory arriving to Lahaina in 1973 as a crew member aboard the Carthaginian.

After four long months at sea, crossing from Denmark to Lahaina, "Everywhere I looked onshore, the many shades of green were magical," Allan recalls.  It is with this painting that Allan won his first Lahaina Poster Contest in 1990. Allan has won first prize twice. Both years, he felt honored to represent Lahaina, such a beautiful and historic place in Hawaii's history.

Allan adds, "The best thing about Lahaina's Historic District is that it has kept its special aura and bustle. There aren't any buildings which are more than two stories tall. One knows that it's an older town immediately. We should never forget the host culture of Hawaii and how the modern phase of its history started in Lahaina."

In addition to receiving the $3,000 prize, the winner also has the notoriety of being the 2022 Official Lahaina Poster artist. One thousand posters will be printed and sold throughout Lahaina and the proceeds will be used to preserve and protect the Historic Town of Lahaina.

Now in its 34^th consecutive year, the 2022 Lahaina Poster Contest is made possible by Village Galleries, Lahaina Arts Society, and Lahaina Restoration Foundation. The deadline for entries is November 10^th, 2021.
