Feliciana Soil and Water Conservation District holds 2021 Conservation Poster Contest

CLINTON, La. - Oct. 12, 2021 - PRLog -- This year, join the Feliciana Soil and Water Conservation District and America's conservation districts as we participate in the Annual Conservation Poster Contest. The Conservation Poster Contest takes place during October, 2021 with the theme "Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities". The contest will have five categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12.   Local judging will occur on November 2, 2021, so it is important that entries are received no later than 11 a.m. on October 26, 2021. The Feliciana Soil and Water Conservation District will award prizes in each category: 1st Place, 2^nd Place and 3^rd Place.  All first place entries for our local contest will be sent to compete in the statewide contest.  The top two posters in each category of the state-wide contest will receive monetary prizes of $75.00 for 1^st place, $50.00 for 2^nd place in the LACD Auxiliary Contest.  All first place entries from the state contest will move on to the national contest where the nation winners will receive additional monetary prizes. 1^st place winners will receive $200.00, 2^nd place winners will receive $150.00, and 3^rd place winners will receive $100.00.  Prizes at the state and national level are sponsored by the LACD Auxiliary and NACD.

The annual poster contests provide kindergarten through twelfth grade students with an opportunity to share their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues. This year's theme, "Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities", focuses on the importance of our forests. Trees are vital. As the biggest plants on the planet, they absorb carbon from the atmosphere, stabilize the soil, filter water, provide healthy habitat for wildlife and offer many additional benefits – for nature, people and biodiversity. Not only is it necessary to protect existing trees and plant new ones, but it's also important to advocate and educate about trees and forest conservation within your community.
