2021 AKTIV Against Cancer Award Luncheon Raises Over $40,000

NEW YORK - Sept. 28, 2021 - PRLog -- AKTIV Against Cancer, the organization co-founded by legendary runner Grete Waitz, and Helle Aanesen, today announced that their seventh awards luncheon generated in excess of $40,000 in donations, marking a strong return to the marketplace after almost 18 months away due to The Pandemic. This year's awards lunch, which was one-third the capacity than previous years due to Covid-19 precautions, was held at the New York Athletic Club on Thursday, September 23 , and had motivational speaker, former American professional soccer player, winner of Survivor: Africa and two-time cancer survivor Ethan Zohn in conversation with Cycle For Survival co-founder David Linn. Cycle for Survival unites families, friends, and colleagues in the fight against rare cancers. Over 37,000 people ride in their signature indoor team cycling events, which have become the model for fitness fundraising in the past decade having raised $280M for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

"We are very excited to be able to return to New York after what has been, and continues to be a challenging 18 months for all of us," Aanesen said. "To be able to honor Dave for his work and the obstacles Cycle For Survival overcomes was a great way to get us back on the literal right path for all we can do to use healthy living and activity to battle cancer. It was a great next step in honoring Grete's legacy, with brighter days ahead."

The luncheon was presented by NYCRUNS' The Brooklyn Marathon and Half Marathon, and was supported by guests from Equinox, Adidas, WCPG, The Norwegian Consulate, Kirkland & Ellis, the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Orange Theory Fitness, among others. Previous honorees of this award include Shannon Miller (2020), Chip and Joanna Gaines (2019) Dr. Jordan Metzl & Kikkan Randall (2018), The Rudin Family & the late Gabriel Grunewald (2017), Meb Keflezighi (2016), and Mary Wittenberg (2015).
