Follow on Google News | ![]() Thinking into the Box With AffordableQuartersAffordable Housing is an essential infrastructure issue that an Ohio startup is addressing by offering do-it-yourselfers – and those that want a bit of help – the ability to create their own American Dream by using a basic building block
By: Affordable Quarters TODAY RhinoCrashPods from Affordable Quarters TODAY are homes made from shipping containers. Beginning from about $25,000 each, the 20-foot by 8-foot units have 8-foot interior ceilings and come insulated and framed, with pre-cut openings for windows and doors suitable for smaller floor plans similar to a nicely laid out recreational vehicle, including room for a foldout (Murphy) bed. They also offer an optional Tesla PowerWall or Generac PWRcell for living off the grid or simply backup with 110-volt standard electricity, 12-volt battery, and LP gas options. The homes can be ready for occupation much more quickly than stick-built homes, especially in these times of tight lumber and labor availability. Often in 60 days or less. "Do-it-yourselfers can finish it out themselves or we can suggest qualified contractors to do the job for you. We also offer the services for hire of an experienced architect who can customize the design of your container home to suit your tastes and needs," said, founder and managing partner of AffordableQuarters, Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey. "We also offer the raw shipping containers themselves through our Shopify Store. Up next: We are adding experienced Third Parties to resell their complementary goods and services." "A group of rhinos is called a crash. The durability of these amazing creatures inspired the name RhinoCrashPod," Kinsey said. "These are homes that not only offer the strength to withstand the storms of nature, but they also provide affordable and flexible options for people to build their own financial fortresses, too. It's thinking out of the box by thinking into the box." Along with providing owner-occupied living in a single former shipping container, they can be assembled together to make a larger building. They also can be arrayed as a small community on a property for use by Airbnb or Vrbo operators, for instance, as short-term vacation options. RhinoCrashPods are fabricated at a facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and the company is currently targeting central and northeast Ohio before expanding its market to all states east of the Mississippi, Kinsey says. https://vimeo.com/ Visit our Store: http://AffordableQuarters.com __ AffordableQuarters and RhinoCrashPods are trademarks of Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey.
