They're now popular with self-publishing authors too. Recently Amazon introduced Kindle Vella, which it calls "a new storytelling option… U.S. based authors can publish serialized stories, one short episode at a time."
Author Angela Booth, who ghostwrites fiction for clients, says that she's now offering a serial-fiction option. "My ghostwriting services always included fiction, but with Kindle Vella now available, clients are very interested in serials."
She wrote a self-publishing guide, Plan, Write, And Publish Serial Fiction In Four Weeks, for her writing students and blog readers. "Many authors find serials confusing. My guide makes this form of writing and publishing less intimidating. I've been writing serials under my pen names for years; I'm happy to share my experiences with other authors."
For clients who are interested in her ghostwriting services for fiction, Angela prefers these genres: romance, historical romance, mysteries, and thrillers. However, she's happy to consult with clients on other genres: "If a genre is too far out of my comfort zone, I can usually recommend other authors who can help the client."
