Follow on Google News | Pulse CPSEA Marks Close of 2021 TakeCHARGE Campaign Season with Joint Commission SpeakerBy: Pulse CPSEA The TakeCHARGE Campaign set out five basic steps or actions anybody can take to help improve their chances of safe medical care, and encouraged everyone to complete one step every month from April through August. As Pulse founder and President Ilene Corina (BCPA) describes the need for such steps: "We don't buckle our seatbelt while the car is crashing, or teach CPR in the middle of someone's heart attack. It pays to be prepared and take real precautions when navigating our complex healthcare system." At the beginning of the same week, on Monday, September 13, Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy will mark the campaign's successful second year with an online meeting of its People for Patient Safety group. The PPS meeting will feature a speaker from The Joint Commission, the nation's largest accreditor of healthcare institutions. Mark A. Crafton, MPA, MT (ASCP) Executive Director, Strategic Alliances Division of Business Development, Government and External Relations at The Joint Commission will describe how it strives to improve the quality and safety of care for all patients, as well as how its standards and resources help achieve this mission. He will also tell the story of Joint Commission activities specifically supporting the TakeCHARGE Campaign's 5 Steps to Safer Health Care (https://takecharge.care/ The Joint Commission was one of about a dozen patient safety and patient advocacy organizations that have joined Pulse CPSEA (https://pulsecenterforpatientsafety.org/ Corina continues: "When we started the TakeCHARGE Campaign early in 2020, it was just a small, Long Island-based program. In 2021 we have welcomed a dramatic expansion and have partnered with committed patient advocates and major organizations throughout the country. The campaign never really stops, but we hope for even greater public impact when we re-launch the 2022 TakeCHARGE Campaign's 5 Steps in March next year."
