Learn Cool Judo Throws for Kids at JMAC
Judo has many benefits for children, but is also just plain cool!
By: Japanese Martial Arts Center
Judo is a prominent Japanese martial arts form that consists of throws, pins, and takedowns. Judo emphasizes not just physical growth, but mental and spiritual development as well, which makes judo great for developing children.
Some of the basic throws your child may learn include Deashi-barai, a sideways throw where you sweep your opponent's feet off the ground. Start by sweeping the opponents left leg with your right foot then twist slightly. They will fall sideways on the ground in front of you. Seoi-nage is a forward throw where you throw the opponent over you by the arm. Put weight on one leg at the heel, spin forward, letting the other leg come back behind the pivoting leg, then with both hands, pull your opponent over you and onto the ground in front of you.
