Via engagement with J-WEL, the American School of Marrakesh will co-develop a STEAM program that engages all levels of students with learning activities; co-design and establish a Maker Space at ASM; and participate in J-WEL events focused on teacher professional development in STEAM curriculum, pedagogy and assessment informed by learning science and effective educational technology practice. J-WEL and ASM expect this work to set the stage for strengthening and modernizing the education infrastructure and practice in the region. "The MIT/J-WEL collaboration provides ASM access to, and the opportunity to work with, world-class experts, programs, and colleagues that position the school as a leader in transformational change in Africa to benefit our students, Morocco, and the world," remarked Dr. Casey Asato, ASM Head of School. The American School of Marrakesh will join other members at upcoming J-WEL events, which bring together representatives of member organizations with MIT faculty and researchers. Through seminars, presentations, and hands-on work, MIT participants support member efforts to transform educational systems and develop solutions applicable across global contexts. The American School of Marrakesh will exchange ideas and best practices with global affiliates of J-WEL, working toward collaborative solutions in education challenges.
