Michigan Philharmonic to perform outside historic Wilcox House

August fundraising concert offers "One World, Many Songs" event

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Aug. 18, 2021 - PRLog -- The Michigan Philharmonic will host a special fundraising performance outside on the grounds of Plymouth's historic Wilcox House at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28.

The concert, "One World, Many Songs–Pocket Edition" features the Philharmonic's Chamber Ensemble during an evening of music, signature cocktails from the Shake & Bake Mobile Bar and a delicious Charcuterie Box prepared by Black & Tan Catering of Plymouth.

Complimentary parking is available on-site behind the house. The gates will open at 6 p.m. with the outdoor concert beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will include a diverse array of pieces including Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger (Australia/Ireland); English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams (England); Lullaby by George Gershwin (USA); Danzas de Panama by William Grant Still (USA/Panama); Russian Sailor's Dance from "The Red Poppy" by Reinhold Glière (Russia); Set of Chinese Folksongs by Chen Yi (USA/China); Valse Triste, Op. 44, No. 1 by Jean Sibelius (Finland); Libertango by Astor Piazzolla (Argentina); Slumdog Millionaire by A.R. Rahman (India); I Dreamed a Dream from "Les Misérables" by Claude-Michel Schönberg (France); and Tico Tico no Fubá ("Sparrow in the Cornmeal") by Zequinha de Abreu (Brazil).

The 76th season of the Michigan Philharmonic begins in the fall with a "Take2 Celebration," offering eight performances between October 2021 and May 2022. These live performances begin with a "Blockbuster Birthday Bash" in October and will feature two world premieres, a unique mandolin composer, a famed jazz guitarist along with a steelpan soloist, a night of traditional holiday pops at the historic Penn Theatre and much more.

Founded in 1945, the Michigan Philharmonic is one of the most respected regional orchestras the state, performing throughout southeast Michigan communities. It performs several summer concerts each year along with its regular season. The Philharmonic is also dedicated to enhancing music through education, offering the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for students of all ages.
