A senseless and violent murder by a total stranger while the victim was volunteering to help friends in need.
His friends purchased a trailer to park on the property and friends were taking turns staying in the trailer keeping watch on the building materials and property as security. Ron had volunteered this night to take a turn staying and guarding the property. It was later that night when a stranger come onto the property and beat him to death. It may have been an attempted robbery or theft but this is not known and may come out down the road during the trial. The police arrested a 27 year old male near the scene and he was charged with first degree murder. (now reduced to second degree murder). Ron did not have signs of defensive wounds which would indicate that he was unconscious during most of the injuries sustained and the evental murder. These included a broken nose, thyroid cartilage in the throat, broken ribs and many other serious injuries. A beating that continued mostly while the elderly victim was defenseless. As the case will likely take years to get through the courts, it will mean travel from Vancouver to Ontario by the family in order to ensure that Ronnie is represented in court. There has been a memorial fund set up on gofundme in order to assist the victim's family covering costs not covered through the victims of crime program. Some of these will include travel costs from the West Coast to court appearances etc. The link is included here for you to help in donating and sharing the information online through social media and other channels. Links to the regional and national news stories are available on the GoFundMe page. https://www.gofundme.com/ End
