Artist Kevin Stone mined his life experience as an outsider in Vermont in constructing his debut novel, The Onion Ring Lovers (Guide to Vermont), which will be released on August 7, 2021. The family life drama follows the life of the Sutton family as they move to Vermont to work at a theme park where its always Christmas. The book explores how finances, ill-conceived ventures, and geographic isolation can strain the bonds of love and family to the breaking point.

"Stone has clearly harnessed deeply-felt memories in his book, and re-dressed them in fictive form. His descriptions of Vermont at its most beautiful, and later, at its most dangerous, merit reading again and again," writes Laura C. Stevenson, author of Liar From Vermont.

Stone is a graduate of the Pratt Institute and has spent his career in graphics arts and art direction. "There was something about those years I spent in Vermont that just would not let go. Something that drew me to write about what it meant to be an outsider looking in," Stone says. "But I want to make it perfectly clear that my family is not this messed up, but Vermont definitely is as quirky and beautiful as it appears in the novel. This is a book about a place and how we sometimes get lost in our geography and in our dreams and, before we know it, we've lost our way."

The Onion Ring Lovers (Guide to Vermont) is ultimately is a family drama that talks to the children who grew up under the insane pressures of post-Nixon America where industries collapsed and reorganized and families struggled to find their way in a country that had left them behind.

KEVIN M STONE: Is a writer, graphic designer and artist. Kevin Spent his formative years in Essex Junction Vermont.
