Before becoming a private celebrity chef, Corey "TruChef" Hall struggled with addiction and mental illness. His new memoir, I Found Me, discusses these battles and how, by rediscovering his passion for food, he found not only himself but also the inspiration to help others who are still sick and suffering.
After realizing he had an alcohol addiction while attending Jacksonville University, Hall searched for a place to maintain more direction and discipline. After three years in university, Hall left to join the United States Navy, where he completednumerous trainings at elite.
For "no rhyme or reason," Hall eventually returned to drinking and experiencing mental issues he could not explain. Ultimately, he was discharged from the military and later diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Having answers was still no saving grace, and Hall felt that he was brought back from the point of no return and spared by a power of will and love.
Only by returning to his first love—gourmet food—and exercise did Hall finally find his true path to recovery. Now, Hall has taken his curse and synthesized it into a gift of motivation for the uninspired with his memoir I Found Me. His memoir is a frank discussion on dealing with the highs and lows of mental illness and weight loss, as well as how finding one's passion, can lead to a normal life.
