CAMDEN, S.C. - Aug. 9, 2021 - PRLog -- CAMDEN, S.C. – When it opens here August 13, the new Revolutionary War Visitor Center at Camden (http://www.simplyrevolutionary.com/) will take guests on a journey through South Carolina's pivotal role in the American fight for independence. The $6 million attraction, owned and operated by the city of Camden, is located on a 3.4 acre site at 212 Broad Street, adjacent to Historic Camden Revolutionary War site.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Staff-guided tours of the campus start at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

The campus consists of three buildings: the Public House, Liberty Hall, and the Market Building at Big Pine Tree Creek. The Public House is the cornerstone of the complex, and replicates the look of Camden's "Old Tavern", that boasted in bygone days - "Entertainment for All – Man and Beast". The Public House features interactive exhibits telling the story of the Southern Campaign and South Carolina's role in the American Revolution. Exhibits also depict portions of Camden's and Kershaw County's history, as well as other areas of the state involved in the Southern Campaign.  An important feature of the exhibit will be information on the state's Liberty Trail.

According to Revolutionary War Center Director, Rickie Good, the entire campus is designed to celebrate the area's unique history and engaging present.

"The goal of this project has always been to create a gateway to the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution," said Good. "Our visitors will find that Camden makes the perfect base to stay while traveling to other important sites in South Carolina."

From the Revolutionary War Center, guests will be directed to preserved Revolutionary War battle sites a short distance from the center – Battle of Camden, and Battle of Hobkirk's Hill, as well as to neighboring Historic Camden – a colonial village museum.

Overall, this major new attraction will serve as the perfect stop for visitors seeking information on the multitude of engaging and entertaining activities taking place throughout Camden and Kershaw County. Guest services staff can help travelers plan their visit.

Located at 212 Broad Street, the Revolutionary War Visitor Center at Camden will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
