VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Aug. 6, 2021 - PRLog -- The wellbeing of Canada's national economy is primarily determined by the state of its construction sector. British Columbia was among those provinces hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020 there was a huge decline in new housing, commercial, and industrial building construction in the province, in comparison to 2019. Fortunately, Canada's construction sector is returning to growth and is expected to have an annual average rate of 1.1 percent over 2021 to 2024 due to major project demands increase and industrial and commercial investment recovery.

British Columbia's construction employment is also expected to recover and continue rising through to 2024, increasing by 12,446 workers (+7%). Growth is driven by the stacking of major heavy industrial, public transit, education, health care, highway, and bridge projects, as well as a recovery in new housing, renovation work, and commercial building construction. Over the coming decade, employment in the construction sector is expected to rise by 17,800 workers – an increase of approximately 10% over 2020 levels.
