COVID's Waves Have Far-Flung Impact on Sports Goods Manufacturers

The second and possibly the third waves of COVID-19 may have a widespread impact on sports goods manufacturers, especially in Meerut, India. Read on for more information.
MEERUT, India - July 24, 2021 - PRLog -- COVID-19 has caused enough devastation for businesses of all types and sizes and the sports good manufacturing industry is also not untouched by it. "The consecutive lockdowns in the state have resulted in shambling finances for most sports goods manufacturers as gyms and sports facilities have closed for a long period," as per Manoj – the senior sales officer at SST Sports – a sports manufacturer and seller in Meerut.

"Meerut sports industry is ranked among the largest in the gym and sports goods equipment sector in Asia but the industry is struggling because of the prolonged closures of sports facilities and gymnasiums in Meerut due to the consecutive lockdowns," he added. The sports goods manufacturers have been facing lots of challenges since the pandemic broke in the country. But, as the first wave ended and the gyms were reopened once again, there was an unprecedented demand for gym equipment and sports goods as well. However, the second wave has forced the sports complexes and gyms to be shut down once again."

Since Meerut is a hub of cricket balls, bats, and other sports goods, companies like SST Sports that supply goods to the domestic market and export products to other nations are quite concerned. "We will not have enough funds to continue paying our staff members and keep the business up & running if the situation persists this year as well. Currently, most factories are operating with just 25% of their capacity due to the pandemic, which is directly affecting the revenues and business.

As per the sports goods manufacturers at SST Sports, the industry is trying to recuperate the losses by working towards supplying for the increased demand which is common during summers. For this, we have ramped up our operations and were working day and night. All hopes are with the IPL season as demands should increase as cricket academies reopen and summer camps will also be hosted across the country.

Meerut and Jalandhar are the hubs of sports goods manufacturing that produce cricket balls, bats, athletic goods, racquets, inflatable balls, fitness equipment, etc. Millions of people are employed by this thriving industry that is now struggling for a breath but we are hopeful that as the pandemic tapers, the industry will bounce back, as per a staff member at SST Sports.
