New Partnership to Deliver Green Hydrogen for Northern Mexico Power Grid
By: Lamplighter Energy
The project will draw on Northern Mexico's abundant solar resources to deliver firm, dispatchable renewable energy at the same cost as fossil fuel power generation, but with significantly better local air quality.
With minor adjustments to existing systems, the zero-carbon hydrogen can be blended directly with natural gas to immediately reduce greenhouse gas emissions. That shift will set the stage for complete decarbonization as new technologies become available over the next five years.
Green hydrogen is still typically expensive, with prices above $12 per kilogram. But by leveraging the latest renewable energy generation strategies, Lamplighter Energy can offer a long-term, fixed price of $2 per kilogram.
"We've been working at this for 10 years, and now our collaboration with North Branch Resources and Generadora del Desierto SA de CV will bring low-priced power options to communities across Mexico," said Lamplighter CEO André DeRosa. "We look forward to growing this market segment together with North Branch."
