Queensland's Tree Removal Is Significantly Increasing

WEST END, Australia - July 11, 2021 - PRLog -- There has been an expeditious increase in tree removal in Queensland. This rate elevated to as high as 395,000 hectares back in 2015- 16. In addition, the SLATS also highlighted the rate of tree removal in the Great Barrier Reef catchment had risen by nearly 50% from 2012.

According to environment minister Steven Miles, the increase in tree removal contributed to the distinction of native wildlife. This could risk hundreds of jobs depending on the Great Barrier Reef.

However, the government assured to put back vegetation management legislation. The government also acknowledged that the increase in tree removal in Queensland had reached a level of 1000 football fields per day.

Some people even criticized the government in power, asserting that the government doesn't deserve a second term. However, they also highlighted that at least 45 million tones of emissions are elicited in Queensland through removal or land clearing. This rate can lead to the change of climate and bleaching that may threaten the Great Barrier Reef.

Miss Trad also suggested that labour used all means to reinstate applicable laws but was not successful.

However, Minister Miles intervened and asserted that Labor's vegetation management laws would offer flexibility to landowners during drought. Also, he claims that this can be practiced through fodder harvesting as the primary drought-saving remedy, provided they offer adequate protection.

Here is what the SLATS report found in the year 2015, 16.
  • There was a sudden increase in vegetation clearing rate from 153,638 every year in 2011, 12 to 395,000 hectares in 2015, 16.
  • Nearly 93 percent of the land cleared in 2015, 16 was not used for cropping but was Instead used for pasture.
  • From 2011 to 2012, at least 166 million tonnes of CO2 have been broadcasted into the air from the tree removal.
