Travel may be bad for your wallet, but it's good for your health
"Travelling is good for your health and necessary for your amusement". Thomas Jefferson put it so plainly. We've all been there, feeling burnt out, feeling smothered in our jobs or the mundaneness of everyday life- just so keen to take a break and get away from it all. To escape for a bit. To climb into your car or onto a plane and just go. There's a perfectly good reason for this – travel is good for our health. It can lift our spirits, it can be a good and healthy way to escape, and it can be very educational.
It has become a common phenomenon that people value life experiences, such as traveling over material things. It has even become trendy to give up material things and have nothing, but see the world. While we're seeing the world, we also come into contact with many people from all over the world, and sometimes we may rely on those people to guide us around foreign places, or ask them for advice or help. This leads to an increase of confidence and a new found sense of self. Other opinions have concluded that traveling abroad "leads to a more definite sense of self, and can even help us gain clarity about the path we are taking in life." We can see, and many have experienced firsthand that travel doesn't only take us on a journey to a new and unfamiliar place, but it also takes us on a spiritual journey.
So next time you're feeling a little down, experiencing a physical, emotional or mental burn out, or just feel like meeting new and interesting people and having your life transformed, get in your car, or if you're fortunate enough, hop on a plane. Throw a dart at a map or go somewhere you've always wanted to go. It can be the town down the road, or a country on the other side of the planet. Go, watch your health and life change right before your eyes.
