New England Healing Sports Association Receives $32,000 Grant from The Hartford for New Adaptive Sports Equipment & Programming

NEWBURY, N.H. - July 8, 2021 - PRLog -- New England Healing Sports Association (NEHSA), a non-profit organization based in Newbury, NH, committed to creating opportunities for youth and adults with physical disabilities through the power of adaptive sports, was recently awarded a grant from The Hartford as part of its Ability Equipped® program.

The grant will enable NEHSA, a member of the Move United Network, to purchase a variety of adaptive hiking equipment so that the organization may introduce and implement a fully accessible year-round hiking program for individuals with disabilities. The equipment will include three Trail Riders, several pairs of snowshoes and trekking poles, crampons, safety equipment, backpacks, and more.

The Hartford will also surprise a group of local youth athletes with their own custom-fit sports equipment. The deserving athletes will receive snowshoes, trekking poles, and hiking essentials that will promote independence through sport and recreation

"Adding hiking to NEHSA's adaptive program offerings has been a long-time goal for the organization.  Last fall, NEHSA piloted a very small hiking program, in an effort to support athletes through COVID-19.  The Hartford's grant has now enabled us to provide fully accessible hiking opportunities all year long.   This program would not be possible without the generosity and support from The Hartford and Move United," said NEHSA's Executive Director, Carly Bascom.

The Hartford has been an advocate for the adaptive sports movement and sponsor of athletes with disabilities for more than 25 years. As a leading provider of disability insurance, the company has a long-held belief that sports are an important part of physical rehabilitation following a disabling illness or injury. Created in 2019, The Hartford's Ability Equipped® program makes adaptive sports more accessible through equipment donations, a digital fitness platform -- Move United OnDemand -- and The Hartford Competition Series.

NEHSA will host a Hiking Kickoff Event on Wednesday, July 14th at the NEHSA Lodge located at Mount Sunapee Resort, 1398 Route 103 Newbury, NH.  The event will run from 10:00am-12:00pm, with a program presentation and gifting ceremony to take place at 10:00am.  The public is encouraged to attend to have the opportunity for hands-on experience with the adaptive hiking equipment.
