COZUMEL, Mexico - July 7, 2021 - PRLog -- Cozumel is the largest island in the Mexican Caribbean and the destination with the most historical Maya legacies: Cozumel was the home to Ixchel, the goddess of fertility, the moon and weaving.

Cozumel is part of the second largest barrier reef in the world, made up of 26 reef-protected areas within the Mesoamerican Reef.

The Cozumel reef system consists of 1,192 species of algae, coral, fish, echinoderms, sponges and others that are unique to this area of the Mexican Caribbean.

The clarity of the water makes the diving and snorkeling experience a dream with water visibility of over 200 feet year-round.

When to dive in Cozumel?

There is no bad time to dive in Cozumel. Water temperatures remain constant throughout the year and cool only slightly during the winter months of December through March. You can dive an average of 300 days per year.

Scuba diving in Cozumel is famous for effortless drift diving within its mild currents. Divers who choose to dive in the winter months are often rewarded with more sharks and eagle ray sightings. November through March in particular are the best months for bull shark sightings.

May through September bring warm waters, uncrowded dive sites, and generally calm conditions. This is the best time to dive in Cozumel if you like the heat but diving in the Caribbean Sea is enjoyable at any time of the year.

At the bottom of the sea, you will find pure white sand that beautifully reflects the sunlight, a great variety of corals to explore from shallow reefs perfect for beginners training such as Palancar Garden, medium reefs include Santa Rosa, Paso del Cedral, La Francesa, Punta Dalila, Cañones, Yucab, Punta Tunich, San Francisco. Deep reefs for experienced divers include Playa Bosh, El Mirador, Punta Chiqueros, Chen Río, Punta Morena, Los Atolones and Punta Molas.

From anywhere on the island, you are less than half an hour by boat from sparkling reefs. For swimming and shore snorkeling we recommend Chankanaab, Dzul Ha and La Pasión.

Here is a list of all member hotels of the Cozumel Hotel Association where you can find accommodations while visiting the island and completing the trip of your dreams: Casa del Mar Cozumel Hotel Dive Resort, Casa Mexicana Cozumel, Coral Princess Hotel & Dive Resort, Cozumel Hotel & Resort Trademark Collection by WYNDHAM, Cozumel Palace, El Cid La Ceiba Cozumel, El Cozumeleño Beach Resort, Fiesta Americana Cozumel All Inclusive, Grand Park Royal Cozumel, Hotel B Cozumel, Hotel B Unique Cozumel, Iberostar Cozumel, Melía Cozumel, Playa Azul Cozumel, Presidente Intercontinental Cozumel Resort and Spa, Secrets Aura Cozumel, Sunscape Sabor Cozumel, The Explorean Cozumel and The Westin Cozumel
