Public-Private Partnership Delivers Critical Resource to Georgia's Foster Families

Three entities collaborate to give Fostering Families Today magazine to 5,000 caregivers.
LOS ANGELES - July 6, 2021 - PRLog -- Fostering Media Connections (FMC), a nonprofit media organization dedicated to child welfare and youth justice issues, will partner with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, Together Georgia and Amerigroup to deliver an award-winning print magazine to 5,000 foster families across the state of Georgia.

The publication, Fostering Families Today, is the nation's premier resource for families caring for children in foster care. It offers practical advice from experts, access to supportive social media groups and continuing education credits six times each year. Now in its second decade, Fostering Families Today won the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Adoption Excellence Award in 2014 and was the National Association of Social Workers' Media Award Winner in 2012.

"FMC is excited to embark on this first-ever public-private partnership for connecting foster families with the highly valuable articles, advice and resources in Fostering Families Today," said John Kelly, co-executive director of FMC. "We are grateful to DFCS, Together Georgia and Amerigroup for this opportunity, and we plan to test this type of partnership in other states very soon."

This public-private partnership comes at a critical time for Georgia foster families as they navigate the challenges of getting kids back to classrooms and some state agencies face budget shortfalls resulting from the pandemic. Amerigroup, which provides health care to children and youth in foster care, gives back to local communities through partnerships like these.

"Amerigroup proudly supports foster families throughout Georgia. Through this partnership, we'll ensure that thousands of foster families across the state have access to a vital resource that can help them as they balance the various needs of supporting children living in foster care," said Amerigroup Medicaid Plan President Mel Lindsey.

Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is committed to helping out-of-work parents get back on their feet and provide support services to help families in need.

According to DFCS Director Tom Rawlings, "Knowledgeable caregivers are the pillar of strong and healthy families. With partnerships like these, we can ensure that we are sharing the latest information on foster, adoptive and kinship care. We are excited to join forces with other leaders across the country to have access to as many resources as possible for our families in Georgia."
