BROOKLYN, N.Y. - June 14, 2021 - PRLog -- KidSpirit (kidspiritonline.com), the award-winning online magazine and community by and for 11-to-17-year-olds, is delighted to announce the winners of its annual KidSpirit Awards today. The awards, chosen by the magazine's all-youth editorial boards around the world, recognize contributors for outstanding expository writing, personal essays, poetry, and artwork featured in KidSpirit in the last year. Over 100 editors from 12 countries selected pieces from issues on Nature, Fun and Creativity, Strength and Influence, and Silence created by their peers, as well as Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee.

KidSpirit provides a unique forum for young people to explore life's big questions, and award recipients represent the wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and interests that make up the magazine's global community. This year's award-winning pieces showcase brave, creative, and inspiring approaches to a wide array of substantive topics.

Each issue of KidSpirit revolves around a Big Question posed by the editors. The 2020 Big Question Award goes to a writer from New York who recounts her journey to find her voice.

In the Features department, editors recognize a teen from Pakistan for her exploration of silence in music and art, a writer from India for his piece on the role of boredom, and a young New Yorker's analysis of youth participation in activism today.

Winners in the Awesome Moments department include authors from India and Taiwan who share stories about unlocking their inner creativity and overcoming their fears. Interfaith Connections Awards acknowledge youth from New York, Taiwan, India, and Australia  for essays on the transformative power of listening, the importance of imagination, the impact of a personal relationship with nature, and the process of connecting with others as a newcomer. In Media, winning pieces include reviews of the movies Little Women, A Quiet Place, and All Is Lost by teens from Taiwan, New York, and India. Helping Hands Awards honor writers from India and New York for their stories about developing a poetry app and volunteering for an oyster restoration project. The editors also selected winners from India, Taiwan, Australia, Pakistan, New York, and Haiti in the Poetry and Art departments, highlighting the creative ways contributors around the world have shared their inner wisdom on this year's themes.

The 2021 PerSpectives Award - the only award reserved for an adult author - goes to Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee for her piece "A Journey of Strength and Healing."  Ms. Gbowee draws on her own life and her incredible work as a peace activist to guide young people in embracing their struggles as a source of strength.
