ANN ARBOR, Mich. - June 4, 2021 - PRLog -- Did you know that jujutsu was one of the first martial arts ever created?

Originating in Japan, jujutsu came from samurai hand-to-hand combat. The idea was that samurai could defend themselves with jujutsu when their weapons were destroyed or lost.

Throws, joint locks, chokes, kicks, and strikes are all moves used in jujutsu. The main goal is to use strength and momentum against your opponent to overpower them. These days, jujutsu is used as a form of self-defense, fitness, and personal development. This is very different than Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which is a completely different fighting style.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is actually closer to judo than jujutsu. Consisting mostly of grappling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu takes place primarily on the ground, with the goal being to force an opponent to submit through the use of chokes and leverage. It is a very competitive sport.
