How do I Get the Cheapest Amtrak Ticket
If you enjoy taking trips and seeing the American countryside, Amtrak is the way to go. You would also like the fare structure: you don't have to shop around on other travel booking sites because Amtrak offers the best fares directly.
With the exception of the occasional web-only promotion, you'll get the same price if you book online or over the phone.
Make your purchases ahead of time.
Many routes offer a 20 to 25% automatic "Saver Fare" discount if you order at least two weeks in advance, so even a last-minute purchase will save you money. Saver Fares, on the other hand, are only applicable for the lowest pricing bucket.
Discounts on Amtrak Throughout the U.S.
What is the cheapest day to travel on Amtrak? Check out Amtrak's Weekly Specials before you start clicking links. They're available every week from Tuesday to Friday. These are incredibly low fares (often up to 80% off) that can be used on any mode of transportation anywhere on the planet.
Purchase in bulk or share with others.
If you just plan to fly for a short time, a USA Pass, which is Amtrak's version of a punch card, will help you save money. It's open on all interstates and state highways in California. If you're travelling with a community and don't want to sleep on the bus, sharing a sleeping room will save you money. Many family rooms can accommodate up to four people and are priced based on space rather than occupancy. Even better, free meals in the dining car are included in the room rate.
Become a member of Amtrak's Guest Rewards programme.
Amtrak miles are measured based on the amount you pay, not the distance you travel. When you buy Amtrak tickets, you get two points for every dollar you pay, plus bonus points if you fly business or Acela first class. Free tickets may be traded for as few as 800 points, and new members receive a 500-point bonus after meeting a few conditions, so you might be able to use those free fares sooner than you expect.
