By: SKY 7 The Queen's Gambit became a hit miniseries on Netflix. Based on a 1983 novel by Walter Tevis, The Queen's Gambit stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon, a child chess prodigy growing up in the 1960s. The series shows how Beth uses chess as an escape from trying to deal with the pressures of being a genius. The soundtrack is loaded with songs from the 1960s, but not necessarily megahits. The hits include "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams, "You're The One" by The Vogues, "Along Comes Mary" by The Association, "Yeh, Yeh" by Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, "(I'm Not You're) Steppin' Stone" by The Monkees and "Venus" by The Shocking Blue. The album tracks on this episode feature The Kinks, Herman's Hermits, Gabor Szabo, Donovan, Alfred Newman, Quincy Jones, Storefront Church and Laura Nyro with LaBelle. In the second hour, "Got My Mind Set On You" is the Cover of the Week, and a shout out to composers Jim Steinman and Barry Mason, who both passed away in April. The Vintage Tunedex features the Top 30 from KXOK 630AM in St. Louis for the week of May 24, 1969. Rock and Roll 101 is heard every Sunday on SKY 7 at 6 p.m. (reboot at 8 p.m.) Arizona/Pacific Time.
