Neuroscientists help gamers to become better in shooters

Epic Games sees 'Fortnite' as a tool to simplify future video game development through its popular Creative mode.
CARY, N.C. - April 24, 2021 - PRLog -- Artificial intelligence already offers us a wide range of applications, in several areas. Thousands of scientists around the world are using artificial intelligence algorithms in their research and learning methods. And now, this technology would also help 'gamers' to become better players.

A team of neuroscientists created a training tool for motor reflexes. They are using it to train professional video game players. This software, called Aim Lab, is a 'polygon' program designed to improve shooting skills in video games. We could say lightly that it is a game to be better at shooting video games.

Statespace, the company that offers it, says that the program provides detailed data on the player's capabilities. It also explains that it is designed to focus on participants' weaknesses.

According to the Aim Lab, success in FPS (first-person shooter) games depends on two things: strategy and skill. Thus, the 'courses' are focused on improving players' tactical performance and players' skills. Several fundamentals are taken into consideration to facilitate that performance, such as speed, accuracy, reaction time, decision making, adaptation and visual attention.

At this point is where artificial intelligence enters the arena. The system 'learns' from the player's behaviors and skills. And so, it notices their weaknesses and makes them to exercise those subjects they don't master.

Statespace considers itself a science for eSports team. This organization is led by three neuroscience PhDs. They intend to use the program to help train eSports players and gamers in general with data and algorithms.

Aim Lab is not intended for a particular game, so anyone can use this tool to train to be better at any game, whether it's 'Counter-Strike' or 'Overwatch'. The developers of the software say that very soon it will be available for consoles as well.

These kinds of sophisticated tools to aid gamers' performance show us the advanced state of the sport. More and more people in the world are deciding to dedicate themselves to this activity as a professional sport. And that is why there are solutions that help them in training, based on science and data.

Until Aim Lab arrives, Fortnite masters are able to train in a more traditional way with creative mode maps to performe better in editing ( and aim (
