CT Shoreline Fire Dept's 9th Annual Food Drive to benefit Shoreline Soup Kitchen & Pantries (SSK&P)

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. - April 8, 2021 - PRLog -- For the 9th year, Connecticut shoreline fire departments will host a one-day food drive on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 to collect non-perishable food for shoreline residents in need.

The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries (SSK&P), proudly celebrating over three decades of service since it opened its doors to those in need in 1989, hopes to include all fire departments in the 11 shoreline towns they serve. Fire departments already committed to the event to receive donations at their stations include: the Old Saybrook Fire will be at the BIG Y, Spencer Plain Rd; Stop and Shop, Elm St; & Wal-Mart, Boston Bost Rd; Old Saybrook; Westbrook Fire Dept.15 South Main St; Essex Fire Dept.11 Saybrook Rd; Clinton Fire Dept, 35 E. Main St. and at Stop & Shop and ShopRite,Clinton; and Chester Hose Co., 6 High St;

In addition, new-drop off spots this year are located at Parthenon Diner, Boston Post Rd; Mirsina's, Main St; Old Saybrook & Scotch Plains Tavern, Westbrook Rd, Essex CT.
All locations are accepting non-perishable food donations from today, during their regular business hours until Saturday, April 24th.

At a time of year when food donations are low, this food drive will help to restock the pantries and ensure that everyone in our local communities will have a place at the table. Please join the effort by donating food to a participating shoreline firehouse on Saturday, April 24th. Participating fire departments ask those donating food to only drop off food on Saturday, April 24th. Please do not drop off food before that date.

The most needed food items are:
tuna, soup, canned fruits and vegetables (corn, peas and carrots, mixed vegetables, baked beans), white rice in boxes or bags, dried beans, fruit juice, pasta and sauce, cereal and oatmeal. This year for your convenience, checks made payable to SSKP ("FD Drive" in the memo field) can be dropped off on April 24th.

This year's food drive will feature local TV and radio personalities, including Gil Simmons, Chief Meteorologist for NEWS 8 WTNH, and radio talk-show host Lee Elci, the morning personality on his popular Lee Elci Show on 94.9 FM News Now-Stimulating Talk. Both Simmons and Elci will be joining volunteer firefighters on Saturday morning collecting food items at the Big Y, Spencer Plain Road, Old Saybrook.
