"I am very passionate about dog-grooming and I believe my quirks are what makes me stand out. Even though I've only been grooming for ten years, I go with my gut and trust my gifts! My personality speaks for itself and people seem to love my work. So, I've learned to simply trust my creator and go with the flow."
It was only after Tierra left college that she explored her options as a dog groomer.
"When I attended college at the University of St. Francis, I was a nursing major, but quickly realized college was not for me. So, I decided to look into other things I was interested in and animals were always at the top of my list, specifically dogs."
Her journey started in 2009 at a local Petsmart in Crestwood, IL, a suburban town several miles southwest of Chicago. Starting as a bather, Tierra worked her way up to groomer, an experience that taught her hard work, patience, and how to see things through.
When asked why she chose this specific Petsmart store, Tierra points to a sentimental reason ---her dad. "When I was a child, my father and I always visited the Petsmart on Cal Sag Road in Crestwood. It was a full-circle moment to be able to work in a place in which I had so many positive memories."
Today Jones is now the owner and head groomer at "Teerific Dog Grooming", a traveling grooming business, specializing in providing one-of-a-kind personalized service to her pups!
"I make sure to provide an exceptional experience. I want to make sure the dogs are comfortable and being treated with respect, kindness, and compassion. I love my job and I love my pups!"
Tierra is just one of ten groomers taking part in Pooch Perfect. The show will air on ABC starting March 30th with a cash prize, alongside a first-place trophy, which will be given to the winner.
Though money is the ultimate prize, Jones says she's already taken something away from her time while filming.
"I gained a lot of new friends and people to connect and collaborate with. We all have something different to offer and that allows me to build a network of other passionate professionals---
Tierra Jones says she plans on expanding her business outside of Chicago, taking her dog grooming business across the country, and exploring her next venture----developing dog-inspired coloring books to combat mental health stigma and provide a pathway to healing for adults and children.
"When you're battling anxiety, having a tangible object can help get you out of your head, and into your body. As for me, when I color pets, I experience a sense of ease and I want to help provide that for others. Not to mention, it heightens the dog's mood and is an overall good experience when done with care. It's a win-win for everybody!"
