Follow on Google News | ![]() Country Crossovers are in the spotlight this week on Rock and Roll 101 at SKY 7From the mid-1950s through the early 1980s, many C&W hits became across-the-board hits.
By: SKY 7 Many stations had what was called block programming in the early days of the rock era, often splitting their broadcast day between country-western, easy listening, and rock and roll. As a result, many recordings landed on playlists for each format. The lineup in the first hour includes Johnny Horton, Jimmy Dean, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty and more, leading off with the Ol' Pea Picker himself! In the second hour, "Games People Play" is the Cover of the Week, and there's a three-song salute to Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. The Vintage Tunedex spotlights the Tiger Tally - Official No. 1 Survey from WMAK 1300 AM, Nashville, Tenn., for the week of March 7, 1966. In the 1960s and 1970s, WMAK was a popular Top 40 station in Music City. Rock and Roll 101 is heard every Sunday on SKY 7 at 6 p.m. (reboot at 8 p.m.) Arizona/Pacific Time.
