New Children's Book Addresses Sexual Assault with African-American Boys

Chad Keeps A Secret is a children's book by Dr. Lisa Smith that explores the signs of sexual assault of boys.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - March 15, 2021 - PRLog -- states that 93% of children and teens know their abuser and are abused in places that children and teens may consider safe (i.e. home, school, family member's home, etc.).

At a time when sexual assault of African-American boys is underreported, Chad Keeps A Secret is a children's book that teaches young children how to help each other tell the truth about their abuse. It empowers children to recognize the signs of sex abuse and find solutions. Parents are also encouraged to take action.

Akae, Beka, and Chad are next door neighbors and great friends. But Chad has a secret that stops him from playing with his friends, his toys, and going outside. Each time he returns from soccer practice, he is distant, sad, and quiet. His coach may know more about Chad's changing moods because he often drops him home after practice, but Chad refuses to talk about his coach. His best friend Akae, and his sister Beka want to help Chad but it is hard to talk to him.

Chad Keeps A Secret explores the different steps Akae and Beka use to convince Chad to expose his secret. It is a gentle and subtle way to help children learn about childhood sexual abuse and is the 1st book in the Good Mental Health for Kids Series for 5-9 year olds.
