By: Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches Mayor Dave Kerner and each of the six commission members this month signed the proclamation – sponsored by Commissioner Gregg K. Weiss – which honors Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches for nourishing and enriching the lives of the county's homebound seniors by delivering nutritious meals, with compassion and love. The proclamation also praises Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches for its efforts in ensuring many homebound seniors remain safe and healthy during current challenging times. "Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches deserves recognition for continuing to provide essential services to our most vulnerable community members during the COVID-19 pandemic," the proclamation reads. March for Meals is a nation-wide celebration now in its 19th year that singles out Meals on Wheels organizations and the seniors who rely on the provided services to remain healthy and independent at home. It commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. Since 2002, community-based Meals on Wheels programs from across the country have joined forces with Meals on Wheels America for the annual awareness campaign to celebrate this successful public-private partnership and garner the assistance needed to fill the gap between the seniors served and those still in need. "We are grateful to Commissioner Weiss and all the commissioners for understanding the value of services we provide to homebound seniors," said Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches President and CEO Pamela Calzadilla. A non-profit organization, Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches is projected to deliver more than 90,000 meals this fiscal year. It receives no government funding and relieves on community support to provide services. For more information, visit www.mowpb.org End
