Basement Egress Window Installations

Building a basement bedroom? Building Code requires each bedroom to have an egress window

CALGARY, Alberta - March 14, 2021 - PRLog -- One of the challenges in developing a basement bedroom, is meeting the egress window requirement for basement bedrooms. In Canada, this issue is common in houses on concrete foundations that were built before the late 90s, where most homes were built with small windows. The National Building Code of Canada requires that all bedrooms have a window that can be used as an escape route in the event of a fire. Among other requirements, the window should have a minimum opening of 3.8 SF and have no dimension less than 15 inches. This typically means that an existing window opening will need to be enlarged or a new window opening will need to be cut into the concrete of the foundation.

True North Concrete Cutting & Coring offers an egress window installation package that provides basement developers with the required window to meet the current building code. Our service includes: permitting and engineering; construction of a window well, which is normally needed; concrete cutting; and installation of the window. The finished product is a brand-new window that provides much needed light into the basement bedroom and allows for safe passage if a fire were ever to occur.
