By: Sonorous Records Inc. The Gospel Harmonettes had achieved some fame in an early appearance when the National Baptists Convention came to Birmingham in 1940. The group first recorded for RCA in 1949, but without Dorothy Love, after appearing on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts television program. Dorothy was the driving force behind the groups success, both on record and in person. Dorothy Love, later Dorothy Love Coates became in the Civil Rights Movement working with Martin Luther King Jr. While other gospel artists were slow to address political issues head-on, Coates spoke out against the war in Vietnam, racism and other evils. She recorded both individually and with the group. Coates reformed the Harmonettes in 1961 and they were disbanded a decade later. https://ingroov.es/ About Us Sonorous Records is an Independent record label.
