Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani To Remain Legal Owner Of Zambezi Portland, Confirms Supreme Court

LUSUKA, Zambia - Feb. 17, 2021 - PRLog -- The Ventriglia family can be easily described as one of the most notorious business families in Zambia. The family is known for its political meddling, unlawful manoeuvres, taking advantage of the limitations and grey lines in the legal and political system to their favour and personal goals. As a result, the controversial decision from the Lusaka High Court judge in which Ventriglias were announced as only shareholders of the Portland Cement Zambia was not unprecedented. The Ventriglia family has, in past, consorted to unethical means to influence court decisions. However, Dr. Rajan Mahtani's decision to approach the higher Court of Appeal was a step in the right direction. On 31st January 2019, justice Mwinde on behalf of the higher Court of Appeal effectively reversed the decision from the Lusaka High Court and announced Dr. Rajan Mahtani as the majority shareholder and legal owner of the Zambezi Portland Cement factory.

The Ventriglias, quite unhappy that their political manoeuvres and illegal powers did not go their way, tried their luck by appealing to the Zambian Supreme Court. The Ventriglias challenged the decision from the higher Court of Appeal and also claimed that the actual amount payable against the majority shares were K580 million. The Supreme Court Zambia established a bench of three judges to evaluate this claim. After evaluation, it was announced that the Ventriglias failed to make the appeal within the given time limit of 14 days from the original judgement. As such, the appeal has been rejected by the Supreme Court Zambia.
