By: SKY 7 Founded in 1947 and later sold to Liberty Records in 1963, Imperial's original focus was on rhythm and blues, country-western and jazz. With the emergence of rock and roll, Imperial was home to Fats Domino, Smiley Lewis, Ricky Nelson, and drummer Sandy Nelson. Later, Imperial released early hits for the O'Jays, The Fantastic Baggys, Cher, Jackie DeShannon, The Classics IV and Johnny Rivers. Imperial also got involved with the British Invasion, with releases from The Hollies, Billy J. Kramer with The Dakotas, The Swinging Blue Jeans, Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mich & Tich. In the second hour, "I Hear You Knocking" is the Cover of the Week, there's a segment on songs where the title is nowhere to be found in the lyrics, and the Vintage Tunedex features the Top 10 for the week of Feb. 14, 1970.
