The world premiere of a 94-second Mozart piano piece – Allegro in D K626b/16 – was played by Seong-Jin Cho in the Great Hall of the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation during the Austrian city's annual Mozart Week.
The Festival's current artistic director, Rolando Villazón, marked the composer's 265th birth date (27th January) with this first rendition of the previously unheard work. It was included in the Festival's abbreviated 3-day programme, tailored for online streaming.
The e-single and video, directed and produced by award-winning Austrian director Hannes M. Schalle, are available on Spotify, YouTube, and German classical music platform DG Stage.
Seong-Jin Cho said: 'It is a great honour to be invited to give the premiere of a formerly unknown work by Mozart in the city where he was born and where it may have been written.' He continued by saying 'I'm delighted: thanks to DG Stage among others, many people from around the world will be able to hear this wonderful piece for the first time during my Mozart Week recital.'
President of the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation, Johannes Honsig-Erlenburg, added: 'The rediscovery of this new work by Mozart is a real gift, not just for the Foundation but for friends of the Mozart Week all over the world.'
