KPI Sports partners with Refugee Support Program
By: KPI Sports Pty Ltd
Today marks the official launch of the KPI Sports Pushing Barriers Scholarship (KPI Scholarship)
Through the KPI Scholarship, KPI Sports will provide funding for five students in the Pushing Barriers program to cover club fees in 2021. The students selected play football (soccer) and basketball at the Western Pride Football Club and Western Spirit Football Club in Ipswich, Centenary Stormers Football Club, Mt Gravatt Hawks Football Club and West Brisbane Falcons Basketball Club.
Pushing Barriers is a not for profit organisation based in Brisbane. Their aim is to help from refugee backgrounds integrate into Australia through sport, by providing them the opportunity to participate in the sport of their choice.
Run entirely by volunteers, Pushing Barriers recognises the importance of sport as an avenue for social inclusion, particularly for children and young people. Multiple barriers exist for refugee communities when participating in club sports, both financial and social. Pushing Barriers is dedicated to removing these obstacles by providing funding, transportation, education, advocacy and liaison services.
The students selected for the 2021 KPI Scholarships have been chosen based on their determination, resilience and skills. Managing Director of KPI Sports Ella Bryan said "we are proud to support these inspirational young people and look forward to seeing them develop throughout the year. KPI Sports believes that access to community sport is something that every child in Australia should have, regardless of background. Pushing Barriers is a fantastic organisation with so much potential and we are looking forward to growing our partnership over the coming years."
Co-founder of Pushing Barriers Jenifer French said "it is fantastic to be working with KPI Sports and we hope to be able to expand the program even further over coming years."
