Pickerel Lake 1: Dark Water Secret by Gary Blackburn
By: Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Co.
"More fishermen were reporting a giant fish swimming up next to their boat and they were terrified."
Then a family member is murdered over a photo of the mysterious fish, pushing Justin and his best friend, Eric, to play detective. On a perilous boat trip to the dark water where the monster fish is said to hide, the boys encounter a Deep Water Secret.
Formed by glaciers thousands of years ago, Pickerel Lake is far deeper than a normal lake.
"If 'ol Pickerel Lake is a thousand feet deep and has water tunnels connecting it to other lakes, maybe our giant fish does live there. Some people who claim they've seen this monster swear it's over twenty feet long and has to weigh over five hundred pounds. Fish that big needs a deep water hole."
If the boys don't solve the mystery quickly, their lives could be in danger.
"One hundred feet of rope and the anchor did not touch bottom. The rope remained straight, piercing the surface of the dark water. I looked at Eric, shaking my head no. Everything got real quiet. A creepy chill ran up my back, to my neck and I felt some hairs stand up. 'Eric, the anchor did not touch bottom. There is no bottom.' "
Gary Blackburn grew up on a lake resort near Park Rapids, Minnesota, absorbing all the unique experiences of lakeside living. He now lives in Southern California, where he is writing a sequel to this book and then a final installment, completing the trilogy that will conclude with the surprising climax to the exciting story of the monster fish of Pickerel Lake.
