The Paris Opera Ballet: Three nights from £1945 per person
By: Travel for the Arts
Rudolf Nureyev's classic production of Romeo and Juliet at the modern Opéra Bastille will be combined with the chance to see a homage to choreographer Roland Petit in the sumptuous Palais Garnier, with a programme including Le Jeune homme et la Mort, Carmen and Le rendezvous.
Travelling by Eurostar from London on Wednesday 23 June there will be a welcome dinner staged at the four-star Hotel Westminster (or a local restaurant), the accommodation used for the duration of the break.
On the morning of Thursday 24th, enjoy a guided backstage tour of the Palais Garnier; created by the architect Charles Garnier in 1875, the Palais Garnier consists of an 'Italian-style' auditorium, with its ceiling painted in 1964 by Marc Chagall, and opulent public areas.
The tour will be followed by lunch in a local restaurant. In the evening, transfer to the world-famous Opéra Bastille, for the first ballet performance, Romeo and Juliet by Sergey Prokofiev, and choreographed by the late, great, Rudolf Nureyev.
Friday is at leisure to discover the city's many attractions including iconic buildings such as the Eifel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, one of the many galleries such as the Musee d'Orsay and the Louvre, or perhaps to enjoy a gentle Champagne boat trip on the River Seine?
On the evening of 25 June, return to the Palais Garnier for the second performance in the tour Le Jeune homme et la Mort, Carmen and Le rendez-vous.
Following breakfast on Saturday 26, head back to the Gare du Nord for the homeward journey on Eurostar, and a chance to reminisce about the unforgettable weekend with new-found friends.
The break costs from £1945 pp (two sharing a room) which includes return Eurostar tickets, station transfers (plus transfers for included activities where applicable) and three-nights' B&B (plus one dinner and one lunch).
Also included are sightseeing tours as per the itinerary (including guides and entrance fees), best category ticket for each included performance, restaurant guide and city notes, and the services a tour manager.
