Travel in 2021 is anticipated to be in high demand as the world prepares for a better year. As the coronavirus vaccine looms near, people have begun planning their 2021 vacations. Many travelers are ready to stretch their muscle for adventure and have started planning trips to far off destinations that will quench their thirst for culture and history and make up for a year without travel.
One of the most memorable trips one can take is a traditional European Christmas market cruise up the Rhine River. The Christmas markets were muted this year due to coronavirus precautions. The coming year is expected to be a more spectacular event for locals and travelers alike.
Central Oregon resident and European travel expert Vicky Malakoff of Destination:
Christmas markets date back to around 1310, the earliest known to have been in Munich, Germany. Despite its name, these outdoor Christmas markets open the four weeks preceding Christmas and celebrate Advent. For centuries these markets have been a cornerstone of Northern European tradition bringing much-needed holiday cheer to locals. A typical Christmas market features local artisans who sell a variety of traditional German handicrafts such as nutcrackers and handmade ornaments. There are also food vendors offering traditional local fare such as bratwurst, Glühwein, and gingerbread.
