FORT WORTH, Texas - Dec. 10, 2020 - PRLog -- Believe it or not, we are making history right now; With COVID-19 wiping out life as we knew it, we've experienced hardships and learned lessons we could not have anticipated. Do we want to mention all the loss through death and dying?

As we begin to close 2020, reflecting over this year is like a blur. You may want to forget it, but don't do that - If you cannot capture, remember and write, who will? This week's Chosen Visionary puts us all to shame, and sorry - She's NOT sorry,

She is Opal Lee, from Fort Worth, TX, 94 years old, wanting Juneteenth recognized as a National Holiday. Yes, Juneteenth originated in TX, but 47 states have it as a state day of observance to commemorate the ending of slavery. More are making it a paid day off, including Virginia, New York, and Texas.

"I believe Juneteenth can be a unifier because it recognizes that slaves didn't free themselves and that they had help.  From Quakers along the Underground Railroad, abolitionists are both black and white like Frederick Douglass and William Lloyd Garrison, soldiers and many others who gave their lives for the freedom of the enslaved."

The Walking Campaign in Washington, DC, in 2016; The driving force bringing awareness to Juneteenth being a national holiday.  This is necessary because she's a board member of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation (working for over 20 years). There is legislation in the Senate S.4019 and in the House H.R.7232 - Juneteenth National Independence Day Act - Needing to passed into law.

It is not lost on me that the summer of 2020 saw the most considerable support of Juneteenth to be a national holiday because George Floyd's death highlighted systemic racism that still exists in residual effects of slavery. We can't let the swell of support disappear until the summer rolls around again. We must make sure Congress follows through with honoring those who came before us.

Lady Opal is in this week's HOT-Seat sharing her experience, story, and wisdom living on this earth longer than you. Pull up a seat and eat all you can and can all you can get. Register here:  https://bit.ly/RoundTabeReservation
