PIETERMARITZBURG, South Africa - Dec. 2, 2020 - PRLog -- SmartAgrIoT, a women managed AgriTech startup that is set to change the Agriculture digital landscape in South Africa and in Africa. Targeting the digital divide gap between smallholder and established commercial farmers where smallholder farmers still do not have access to needed technology tools, they do not have access to markets, and do not have access to finance needed to growing their agriculture business to become commercial farmers one day.
We have not yet seen success stories of smallholder farmers that have grown their businesses or farms to become commercial farmers. Agriculture industry exports various products and yet few or none of them originate from smallholder farmers.

The market for SmartAgriot is in the identification of foreign markets for the smallholder farmers, negotiate with the buyers that are willing to provide off-take agreements, then use the artificial intelligence-based tools to manage the farms across the value chain. We then ensure the farmers meet the buyer specification by using the artificial intelligence-based technologies to managing soil, water, irrigation, crop health, livestock health, track and tracing of animals.
This is made affordable through the innovative business model called "FARMING AS A SERVICE" which combines the technology and the Agriculture resources (extension officers, agronomist, VETS) to providing the services on the PAY AS YOU GO BASIS using the subscription model.
The industry is talking about the 4th Industrial revolution, 5th Generation technologies, and artificial intelligence based technologies which are dreams to many smallholder farmers as they cannot relate to these technologies in relation to their day to day agriculture operation. Payroll is the most expensive line item in the operational budget of most businesses. Smallholder farmers cannot afford to have full time agronomists, Vets, to help manage their farms. We mitigate the risk on both seller and buyer sides. The services ensure that we assign an extension officer to each farmer. The extension officer  visits each farmer on a weekly basis whilst the professional team like the Agronomists, Vets, sits and watch each Farm using intelligence monitors and via satellite based Earth observation. An SMS or TEXT is sent to both extension officer and the farmer to ALERT them of any action that might be required on the farm.  This engagement can service any size farms, land, across the whole continent from one location. Our long term plan is to establish satellite district based offices to be closer to the farmers and digitize over 1 million farms by 2030.
