For the last six years the Islamic Arts festival has become a part of the cultural scene in Houston. The 2019 Festival showcased the art of 50 artists in a 10,000 sq. ft. area and drew over 6000 visitors. However, in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic posed new challenges and in order to safeguard the health of visitors, the festival will be moving completely online this year.
Visitors will be able to literally walk through the gallery and view art in a museum like environment. They will browse through the online gallery and buy artwork from the comfort of their homes. In addition, there will be live interactive sessions on calligraphy, henna tattoo, Ebru and painting. Visitors can also watch master artists and calligraphers as they transform random brush strokes into beautiful art. The online art festival will feature art from renowned artists from all across USA
During the festival there will be short videos showing how Islam encourages the pursuit of beauty as well as a panel discussion "Seeking Solace in the Beautiful: The Spirit of Islamic Art" featuring eminent scholars of Islamic ar. The festival will also feature a Children's art program curated by the Asia Society.
The Mayor of Houston Honorable Sylvester Turner will inaugurate the festival at 10.30 am on the 5th of December. The festival can be accessed on our website www.IslamicArtsSociety.org as well as on our Facebook and YouTube pages on both the 5th and 6th of December.
